May 2024: Tenants vacate.
July 2024: Construction start.
- Possible traffic disruptions with work within city right-of-way or equipment entering/exiting project site. Interim barricades and secured personnel will be onsite for safety.
Winter 2025: Construction end.
Summer 2026: Businesses begin opening.

Waiānuenue ma Kapaʻakea translates to the rainbow in the freshwater springs of Kapa‘akea and represents a connection between Mānoa Valley – the valley of rainbows and the wai of Waikīkī. It is a connection point for the community and celebrates cultural diversity, intellectual boldness, innovative energy, and entrepreneurial spirit. Waiānuenue is a community-centered retail where memories are made and shared for a lifetime.
The project will modernize, add vibrancy, and create a vibrant space to the neighborhood and bring the community together through a mixture of retail, restaurants, and entertainment. Waiānuenue consists of the Varsity Center, the East-West Building, 2535 Coyne, and a portion of the Varsity Building parking lot.
Renovations are anticipated to begin this Summer of 2024, after the Mōʻiliʻili Summer Fest event on July 6, 2024. The overall renovation is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
The Waiānuenue ma Kapaʻakea buildings will remain at its current height.
The Varsity Building is not included in the renovation project. Waiānuenue consists of the Varsity Center, the East-West Building, 2535 Coyne, and a portion of the Varsity Building parking lot.
